Gaurav Kumar, husband of a Haryana Mahila Congress leader, claims he paid crores to Congress leaders for his wife's 2024 Assembly ticket.

In a major political scandal, Gaurav Kumar, husband of a Haryana Mahila Congress general secretary, alleges he “paid crores" to Congress party leaders for a ticket for his wife in Haryana’s 2024 Assembly elections. Speaking to the reporters in Delhi, Kumar said Congress leaders had guaranteed that his wife would get a ticket in the elections.

Speaking to IANS, Kumar said: “…In the chats, they themselves have admitted that yes, they took the money. I have only mentioned the names of three or four leaders so far, but there are many more… I am giving an open challenge to Rahul Gandhi… I will show you the mirror of what is happening in your own house, and what your senior leaders are doing…Either they are doing something wrong with you, or you yourself are getting it done…"

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a press conference last Tuesday attacking Congress leadership in relation with this matter. The party alleged that members of the Gandhi-Vadra family attempted to extort Rs 7 crore during the Haryana Assembly elections, and claimed that purported WhatsApp chats have brought “prima facie evidence" of corruption into the public domain.

Addressing a press conference in Delhi, BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said, “In the last few days, the entire country has been talking about just one issue: that the entire Congress party has been exposed as corrupt and compromised, with the kingpin of this corruption being the Gandhi-Vadra family."

Bhandari further cited Gaurav’s claim and showed WhatsApp chats and conversations allegedly linked to senior Congress functionaries.

He alleged that evidence has surfaced against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in connection with the Bawal Assembly seat in Haryana.
