Traditional reindeer racing that's been delighting fans for decades in Finland, has drawn crowds of spectators despite freezing sub zero temperatures. The competition is held at a remote location near the Russian border 264 kilometres northeast of the city of Oulu.

Reindeer racing drew crowds to the northern Finnish town of Salla, near the Russian border, as spectators gathered to watch the traditional winter competition.

Reindeer pulled skiers across a snowy track, with the fastest teams racing a one-kilometre course.

Visitors from several European countries attended the event, which dates back to the 1950s. Today the races are organised competitions involving trained male reindeer.

The three-day event concluded with reindeer named Pompom winning the final race.
