Forecast wet and windy weather has led to the final day of the Royal Cornwall Show being cancelled.

Organisers said cancelling the last day of the show, which started on Thursday, was with "great regret", following a "thorough assessment of forecast weather conditions".

Organisers said the safety and well-being of the visitors and stakeholders was "central to this decision and remains our highest priority".

The Met Office yellow weather warning is in place from 09:00 BST to 19:00 BST and predicts gusts of 45 to 50 mph.

Organisers said: "We recognise how disappointing this news will be for everyone involved, particularly those who had planned to attend, exhibit or compete.

"We would like to thank all our stakeholders for their patience, understanding and support."

Show secretary Mark Stoddart said damage caused by the weather overnight was "substantial".

"We had a lot of the trade stands down, it just was not safe," he said.

"It's starting to get more substantial than that, bins are starting to blow in the wind, tables, chairs are blowing over, and it's just not a safe environment for people.

"There is a long, long list of people that come together to put this on and in some respects, I'm sorry we are having to cancel, but that unfortunately is the best option we have."

Organisers said more information for ticket holders and stakeholders would be communicated through the Royal Cornwall Show's official channels as soon as possible.

Two other events in the region have been cancelled due to the weather.

The Bideford sheep drive has been moved to 8 August, and Camborne Town Council's Camborne Green Fest has been rescheduled for September.
