A search is underway for a father who is accused of raping his 14-year-old daughter while her mother was away. The incident is alleged to have taken place at the child's home in North-west Delhi's Jahangirpuri, India, on July 7, police said on Sunday.

According to a First Information Report (FIR) filed at the Mahendra Park police station, the assault happened when the girl's father, who lives separately in Badi village, came to the home while her mother and ten-year-old brother were away.

Police have said that the accused fled the scene and remains at large, with a search for him underway. The victim alleges that her father established a physical relationship forcefully against her will. She also says that he threatened to kill both her and her mother if she said anything about it.

Authorities have booked the accused under Sections 64(2) (punishment for rape), 65(1) (rape) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (the official criminal code of the Republic of India), as well as Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

A senior police officer said: "The accused is on the run. Multiple teams have been formed to trace and apprehend him at the earliest."

The survivor has been sent for a medical examination following the incident.

The 14-year-old's statement under Section 183 of the BNSS has been recorded, the officer added.

An investigation is ongoing.
