The General Education department has taken up with the Census Directorate the issue of rescheduling the Census 2027 training for teachers that is scheduled for Monday (June 8, 2026).
This follows concerns raised by teachers’ organisations that Monday is the sixth working day of the academic year on which schools record student strength for determining teacher posts and other related matters.
Scheduling the Census training that day will lead to difficulties for schools since the final student headcount has to be uploaded on the Sampoorna web portal of the department by 5 p.m. The website will not be available for uploading details after that. If teachers go for Census training, uploading the student strength may not be possible, Kerala School Teachers’ Association general secretary TKA Shafi had said.
Mr. Shafi said they had brought the issue to the attention of the Minister and other authorities.
Census training has been scheduled across the State on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. In districts where the training falls on Tuesday or Wedneday there would be no issues, but in some districts teachers are scheduled to attend the training on Monday. In those districts, the training will be shifted to another day.
Since the Kerala Education Act says that the strength of teaching staff in each school should be fixed after finalising the number of divisions based on the effective strength of the class as on the sixth working day from the re-opening date in June, it has to be done that day.
An order from the General Administration department rescheduling the training is expected on Saturday, officials said.
