With Spider-Man: Brand New Day dominating cinemas around the world, comic fans are already wondering where Tom Holland’s New York-based superhero could go next, with ideas including a crossover movie with Tom Hardy’s version of the character’s enemy, Venom. This would see Marvel Studios form ties with Sony, which took on its own version of the comic villain created by David Michelinie and artist Todd McFarlane in 2018 with Ruben Fleischer’s Venom. 

Starring Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom, Fleischer’s film was followed by two sequels, 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage and 2024’s Venom: The Last Dance, and grossed a total of $1.836 billion at the global box office.

Meanwhile, the MCU Spider-Man world consists of 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and now Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The individual Spider-Man films have grossed $883 billion for Marvel, with the additional Avengers installments adding an extra $5.997 billion.

Spider-Man 4 producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige have responded to the idea of Spidey and Symby crossing paths. When asked on the Happy Sad Confused about where they stand with making the crossover happen, Pascal replied: “It would be great, let’s put it that way.”

After Fiege told Spidey fans to “always have hope” about the web-slinger and The Black Suit sharing the big screen, Pascal made sure to affirm: “I have hope. We have hope.”

Over on The Discourse Podcast last year, Hardy touched upon his take on the character meeting the MCU Spider-Man, stating:“We got as close as I could possibly imagine getting, apart from doing a film together, which I would have loved to have done because that just means so much fun.” The actor’s interest in the crossover stems from the fact that “fundamentally it would be for the kids.”

“Because, you know, as much as adults love superhero films, as you can tell by the box office when they’re successful, I think I’m constantly reminded by children how important these characters are,” Hardy added. “And they don’t know why their favorite characters aren’t in films together.”

Additionally, an animated Venom film is currently in the works over at Sony Pictures Animation, handled by Final Destination: Bloodlines directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein. Hardy is reportedly involved in the project; however, no direct role has been made public.
