Tummala Nageswara Rao explains reasons for use of pesticides which is impacting horticulture cultivation

Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao spoke about the impact of the use of pesticides in vegetables and fruits cultivation in the State and all countries rejecting these horticulture produce from the State. Reacting to the concerns raised by MLA Yashaswini Reddy, the Minister said in the Assembly on Thursday (September 10, 2026) that he elaborated on the reasons for the use of pesticides and urged Centre to provide subsidies on fertilizers which conserve land.

The fourth day of the Telangana Assembly’s Monsoon session would begin with a significant number of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs, including working president K.T. Rama Rao, not in the House. Over 20 of them were suspended for remainder of the ongoing sessionon Wednesday (September 9, 2026).

The proceedings began with Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar speaking on various aspects of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) services. BJP MLAs spoke on the need to increase vegetable cultivation and milk production in the State. MLA Payal Shankar said that only 8% of the milk needed in Telangana is produced here and the rest is imported.

AIMIM MLAs spoke on the issues at vegetable and fruit markets in Hyderabad and requirements there.

The proceedings on Wednesday (September 9, 2026) ended after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced a full-fledged probe into series of incidents from Sunday (September 6, 2026), including the alleged remarks of BRS MLCs against the Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. Thereafter, a delegation of the Congress met Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention as the highest custodian of the Constitution in the State to protect the dignity, safety and self-respect of Dalits and women, both within and beyond the physical boundaries of the Legislature.

Focus on pesticides usage in cultivation needed: MLA Yashaswini Reddy
Palakurthi MLA Yashaswini Reddy raised health concerns over use of pesticides in cultivation. She said that alike to the focus on detecting food safety violations in the State, usage of pesticides need to be looked into. She said that farmers are troubled by the menace of monkeys and urged the government to address this.

Extent of vegetable cultivation dropped from 3 lakh acres to 50,000 acres: Telangana Agriculture Minister
Responding to the question raised by MLAs in the Telangana Assembly on Thursday (September 10, 2026) on concerns over vegetable cultivation and other aspects, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said that the extent of land used for vegetable cultivation in the State reduced from three lakh acres to 50,000 acres. He mentioned the subsidies provided for some crops and works, which is having an impact.
Citing the concern raised by MLA Yashaswini Mamidala on the use of pesticides for cultivation and health concerns over it, the Agriculture Minister said that all countries reject vegetables and fruits produced in the State due to use of pesticides in the cultivation which is necessitated by use of chemical fertilizers.
Mr. Rao said that he has urged the Centre earlier for rationalisation and to give subsidies on fertilizers which conserve land.
Responding to the requests of MIM MLAs, the Agriculture Minister said that a special meeting would be held with the Marketing Department Director to resolve issues in the markets in Hyderabad.

Provide resting space for farmers at Gudimalkapur market: MIM MLA Majid Hussain
AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain places a request in Telangana Assembly on Thursday (September 10, 2026) to provide resting space for farmers who travel from afar to vegetable and flower market in Gudimalkapur and a canteen. He also said that space for walking in the market is shrinking and licenses for stores are issued without considering space available there. AIMIM MLA Jaffar Hussain urged in Telangana Assembly to upgrade the vegeetable market in Madannapet, whose condition needs to improve. Widening of roads there was requested as it is difficult for trucks to ply in the current situation. Besides improving facilities at the Rythu Bazaar in Falaknuma, Mr. Hussain requested for a temporary license to conduct business from a land in Pahadishareef for fruits business.

BJP MLA urges system to be set up to address milk adulteration and fake milk
BJP MLA Payal Shankar said that only 8% of the milk needed in Telangana is produced in the State and the remaining 92% is imported from other States. Alleging adulteration of milk and fake milk which impacts people’s health, he urged the State government to set up a system to address the issue and policy on milk production in the State. Mr. Shankar said that benefits of National Livestock Mission has to be provided to the people in Telangana, which helps livestock farmers and people.

Vegetables are imported from other States to Telangana leading to increase in prices: BJP MLA
Baharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA K. Venkata Rama Reddy spoke on the need for increasing the extent of land used for vegetable cultivation. He said that the cultivation in Telangana is insufficient to meet requirements in the State and vegetables are imported from other States, which leads to increase in the prices.
He urged the State government to provide cold storage facilities, subsidy on equipment needed to encourage vegetable cultivation.

Constituency-wise bus service requirements received in last session
Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said in Assembly on Thursday (September 10, 2026) that requests for constituency-wise requirements for TGSRTC buses were received from legislature members in the previous assembly session. Around 65 lakh passengers take TGSRTC buses everyday.
Mr. Prabhakar pointed fingers at the previous government of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and said buses were not bought for 10 years and did not resolve employees’ issues. The Minister said that 2,932 new buses were bought so far.
Around 347.7 crore women passengers availed free bus service in the State so far and saved ₹12,171 crore.

No plans for CCTV surveillance in TGSRTC buses: Transport Minister
Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said there are no plans to introduce CCTV surveillance systems in RTC buses. However, speaking in the Assembly on Thursday (September 10, 2026), he said that the Corporation on its initiative has set up CCTVs in premium fleet and EV buses.
Buses were installed in the RTC buses in Adilabad in coordination with the district’s Superintendent of Police. He said that it would be extended to other buses based on need.
