Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Crust Mateo Super Gripper is a new 26+ tire option for riders seeking a “mid-fat” tire in the lesser-used wheel size. Check out all the details of the fresh release below…
The Crust Mateo tire is the first official piece of rubber launched by the small, Virginia-based brand and one that recalls its love for the 26+ size. With early models like the Evasion based around wider 26″ tires, the Mateo Super Gripper is ideal for the kind of riding Crust has in mind. The Mateo tire is officially 2.8″ in width, but it maintains the “+” designation as it ranges anywhere from 2.8″ to 3″ depending on the rim it’s mounted on.
Per Crust, “You can run this tire on a rim with a 25-ish millimeter internal width. It works great. We’ve run plus tires set up tubed and tubeless on Velocity Cliffhangers for close to, if not a full decade at this point. They’ll set up tubeless, corner hard, air down beautifully, and overall work great. Honestly, we’ve run plus tires with tubes on 18mm rims with great luck as well. Do your thing, ya know?”
The tire is named after Angelica Casaverde’s brother, Mateo, who often features on Crust’s social media. Mateo has bikepacked in all kinds of amazing places and documented his travels on their YouTube channel. Garrett Anderson, their head of logistics and head US employee, has also spoken extensively on his love for the 26” wheel size.
The Mateo tire is made in Taiwan, has a black sidewall and tread, is tubeless compatible, has a 120TPI casing, weighs 750 grams, and retails for $72.
