The Andhra Pradesh High Court’s Juvenile Justice Committee (JJC) has directed the NTR Commissionerate police and the Krishna district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to submit reports on the rescue of a pregnant minor girl in NTR district.

Taking suo motu cognisance of a report published in The Hindu on July 20, titled ‘Rescue of 14-year-old pregnant girl’, on the incident in Tatakuntla village of Vissannapet mandal, the JJC directed the CWC Chairperson and the police authorities to submit separate reports by July 27.

The committee also directed the officials to appear before it at a meeting scheduled in the High Court on July 29 with all relevant records for discussion on the case.

Constables suspended

In a separate case, head constable Sitaramulu and constable Prasad, attached to the Nandigama police station in the NTR Commissionerate, were suspended after an accused in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case escaped from custody.

According to the police, the two personnel took Lingaraju, a native of Tavalakuntla village in Markapuram mandal, into custody on July 19 for allegedly harassing a minor girl on social media.

Nandigama Assistant Commissioner of Police Chalasani Srinivas told The Hindu on Friday that the accused escaped while being escorted from Nandigama.

The police later re-arrested Lingaraju and produced him before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody, Mr. Srinivas said.
