You’re bound to find plenty of mysteries and thrillers to read in the news and links below. Today’s roundup includes the adaptation of a fantastic crime trilogy, the next installment in a cozy crime series, a fall reading list to kickstart your preorder list, and more.

Colson Whitehead’s Harlem Trilogy is Getting a Series Adaptation

They better actually make this: Colson Whitehead’s historical crime Harlem trilogy sold the rights to Apple TV, and a series is in early development. There’s a hell of a team behind it: Graham Yost (Silo) and Aric Avelino (American Gun) are adapting the trilogy for the small screen as well as executive producing, along with Barry Jenkins (Moonlight and Mufasa), Adele Romanski (Sorry, Baby) and Mark Ceryak (Aftersun) of Pastel; Melissa Bernstein (Breaking Bad) of Special Interests; and Whitehead himself.

More Vera Wong

Jesse Q. Sutanto’s Vera Wong series will have a third book release in 2027: Vera Wong’s Vacation Hacks for Catching a Killer. The author recently revealed the cover and talked about the book, which sees the titular sleuth solving a mstery while on a Parisian vacation.

The New York Times Names the 50 Best Thrillers

The New York Times put out its list of The 50 Best Thrillers of the 21st Century. I will note this should have been titled “Best Crime Novels” because much of this list is fantastic crime books— you should definitely be reading these books— but were not written as thrillers and thus are not actual thrillers. *Raise your hand if it has been driving you bonkers that “thriller” is being used interchangeably with “mystery” and “crime” lately when they are not the same thing. Just me? Okay.

Anyhoo, go check out the list and find excellent authors you should be reading like Jennifer Hillier, Attica Locke, Tana French, and Steph Cha.

A Reacher Author Team-Up

Zero Margin by Lee Child and Yasmin Angoe will be hitting shelves in 2027, continuing the Reacher universe with a Neagley book spin-off (Both Reacher and Neagley are already series on Prime Video).

Swedish Crime Novels Get Series Adaptation

Lars Kepler’s (pseudonym for married writers Alexander Ahndoril and Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril) crime novels Lazarus and The Sandman have been adapted into an Apple TV series starring Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz, and Stephen Graham. Nocturne will begin streaming on October 30th, and if you want to read the Joona Linna series in the meantime, you can start with The Hypnotist.
