Tottenham have rejected an offer from Newcastle for midfielder Lucas Bergvall, despite the bid exceeding Nottingham Forest’s previous approaches for the Sweden international.

The Athletic claim Newcastle’s proposal was worth around £46 million, but Spurs turned it down as interest in the 20-year-old continues to grow.

While Tottenham have rebuffed every approach so far, they could consider a sale later in the window if a club meets their valuation.

Bergvall is under contract until June 2031 but has informed Spurs that he would prefer to move on this summer in search of a new opportunity.

The midfielder has attracted interest from several clubs across England and Europe, with Nottingham Forest making him their top target following Elliot Anderson’s £116m move to Manchester City.

Newcastle have also stepped up their interest as they continue reshaping their midfield after selling Sandro Tonali to Tottenham earlier this summer.

The Magpies also missed out on Switzerland international Johan Manzambi, who instead completed a club-record move to Aston Villa.

Bergvall joined Spurs from Swedish side Djurgarden in 2024 in a deal worth around £8.5m and has made 78 appearances for the club across all competitions.

He featured 33 times last season, scoring once and registering five assists despite missing several weeks after undergoing surgery on a high ankle sprain sustained in January.

Tottenham have strengthened their midfield significantly this summer, completing the £85m signing of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and bringing Tonali to North London in a deal worth up to £100m.
