Two persons were arrested by Odugathur police in Vellore for possession of one country made gun during a vehicle check on Wednesday.

The police said that arrested persons were identified as K. Satish Kumar, 32, and his accomplice R. Babu, 23. They were residents of Tiruvannamalai district. Initial inquiry revealed that a team of police personnel were conducting a routine vehicle check in Arasampatti village at the foothills of Jawadhu Hills in Vellore when a speeding car did not stop at the police checkpoint.

As police chased and approached the car, three unidentified persons fled the spot with a country-made gun. The police managed to nab the remaining two persons in the vehicle.

The police said that the gang was on their way to the forests in Jawadhu Hills along Tiruvannamalai - Tirupattur border to hunt small wild animals and sell their meat in the open market. The gang procured the guns acquaintances in Kerala for hunting purposes.

The police said a case was registered and special teams were formed to nab suspects. A country-made gun and car was seized. A probe is under way.
