French video game publisher Ubisoft said on Wednesday (Oct 14) that it plans to cut 70 jobs in its Singapore studio. According to its website, Ubisoft Singapore employed over 450 employees in 2023.
While the studio “remains an important element” of its global operation, the move comes as Ubisoft tries to return to profitability.
The company posted a net loss of 1.5 billion euros (S$2.15 billion) for its 2025-26 financial year in May. Since Jan, it has been cutting costs to return to profit. It now aims for at least 200 million euros (S$287 million) in spending cuts over two years, on top of 300 million euros (S$430 million) already targeted in recent years.
Ubisoft has also proposed closing RedLynx, its studio in Finland.
RedLynx had more than 150 employees in 2021, but Ubisoft already cut dozens of jobs there last year as part of a push to refocus the studio on mobile games.
Ubisoft is behind popular action-adventure franchises including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Watch Dogs.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, released in Jul and a recent project of the Singapore subsidiary, has sold more than 3.5 million copies.
