Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayHalewood Artisanal Spirits has sold the Crabbie's alcoholic ginger beer brand to local drinks business Brookfield Drinks.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In a statement, Brookfield said Crabbie's acquisition marks a "significant addition" to its portfolio, which includes the Rubis fruit beer range, Kestrel lager, and French beer brand La Goudale.
Nigel McNally, the founder and owner of Brookfield, said: "Crabbie's is a must stock product within the fast growing fruit/flavoured beer market."
He added: "With the alcoholic ginger beer and fruit beer category continuing to grow, particularly amongst consumers seeking more flavour-led and refreshing craft centric drinking experiences, we believe there is a significant opportunity to further elevate the brand."
Crabbie's portfolio includes alcoholic ginger beer which also comes in raspberry and blood orange flavours, as well as an alcoholic ginger wine.
Halewood CEO Stewart Hainsworth said the sale "is another exciting step forward for the Halewood company as part of its spirits focused artisanal brand strategy".
A spokesperson for Brookfield told Just Drinks the company is acquiring the Crabbie's brand and associated intellectual property, but no production assets.
They added that Brookfield operates a "virtual business model" centred on sales, marketing and logistics, using production partners rather than owning manufacturing facilities.
According to the statement, Brookfield will "significantly increase marketing investment behind the brand" across retail, hospitality and export channels.
The company spokesperson confirmed that the group plans "to make a multi-million-pound investment" in Crabbie's, across marketing, NPD and sales to support growth in the UK and overseas.
"In terms of international distribution, we plan to continue developing Crabbie's in established markets including the USA, Canada and Scandinavia, while also exploring opportunities to expand the brand's presence across wider Europe, the Far East, Africa, the Caribbean and South America," the spokesperson said.
The company's own main markets already include the UK, Europe, the Caribbean, Asia, the US and Africa.
Crabbie's is the second brand to be sold by Halewood this year.
In January, Poland's United Beverages Group bought Halewood's JJ gin-and-vodka brand, with Halewood retaining exclusive UK distribution.
At the time, Halewood said that deal also formed part of efforts to "refine" its brand portfolio.
In results for the year to 28 June 2025, the company saw net turnover fall 11% to £77.4m ($104.5m), while Crabbie's international net revenues declined by £1m "due to lower sales volumes in the US negatively impacted by tariffs and the cessation of the Canadian distribution due to low margins".
