New weather maps show snow is set to hit the UK in just days, with 16 areas facing cold conditions from Monday - here's the full list of affected locations

Despite the sunnier spring conditions this week, snow is poised to batter the UK again in just days, with fresh weather maps revealing which areas will bear the brunt. It had appeared that conditions were warming up with Brits nationwide catching a glimpse of sunshine this weekend - but it's not set to last.

Maps from forecaster WXCHARTS indicate that colder temperatures are set to make a comeback. By Monday, March 23, snow will strike Aberdeen, the first location set to experience the chilly weather.

On Tuesday, March 24, snow will batter the west of the UK, particularly parts of Scotland, Blackpool and Wales. By Wednesday, March 25, snow will spread towards the east and south and be seen as far south as Plymouth and Norwich.

Most of the snow will, however, be anticipated in Scotland and the north east and north west coasts of England, with purple, indicating snow, stretching down the coastlines.

By 9am on Wednesday, most parts of northern Scotland will see snow, with everywhere above Dundee set to be blanketed. In Wales, the west coast will also see a considerable amount of snow, which will stretch inland towards Cardiff.

In England, there will be snow across Cumbria, Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent. By 9pm, the east coast of England will also see snow - blanketing from Newcastle to Ipswich. The south and the Midlands will remain largely dry with small patches of rain and snow which are not set to persist. Northern Ireland will also remain largely free from cold conditions with a small patch of snow around Derry. A snow depth map shows the heaviest snowfall will be in Gairloch, Scotland, with around 14cm.

Separately, the Met Office five-day forecast says it will be cloudy and breezy in the north tonight with fog patches elsewhere, reports the Express.

For this evening and tonight, it says: "Turning cloudy and breezy across Scotland and Northern Ireland tonight, with some rain, especially towards the north and west.

"Largely clear skies for England and Wales, with a patchy frost and some low cloud and fog developing."

For Sunday, it says there will be patchy rain which will move southeastwards across the UK, and there will be some sunshine developing across southern England after a locally foggy start. It will be brighter, colder weather arriving in the northwest, with some blustery showers.

For Monday to Wednesday, it says: "Turning wet and windy in the north on Monday. Elsewhere fog clearing, then bright spells.

"Rain clearing southeastwards on Tuesday. Cold and windy midweek with sunshine and showers, some wintry."
