Pikachu, Eevee, and even Gengar want to keep you warm and toasty once the weather gets crisp or chilly.

As someone whose favorite time of year is summer, it always irks me to see how gleefully quick some companies in Japan are to call the season done and move on to fall. Yeah, I know the summer weather can be hot and humid, but I really can’t be too bothered by it when there are days at the beach, nights of fireworks festivals, and shaved ice and watermelon at any and all waking hours.

But OK, I won’t grumble about Uniqlo’s sister brand GU getting into an autumn kind of mood early, since they’re doing it with a collection of Pokémon sweaters and hoodies.

The most eye-catching items in the lineup are the Full-zip Knit Jackets, done in the style of Christmas sweaters and featuring silhouettes of Pikachu and Eevee.

A pair of each of them appears on both the front and the back of the garments.

The Pikachu version also has lightning bolts on the sleeves, while the Eevee design put Poké Balls there, a motif that also shows up on both of their zipper pulls.

If you’re looking for something a little sleeker, there’s a trio of Full-zip Fleece Pullovers.

The Pokémon theming is subtler here, but a closer look at the Patagonia-like patch on the chest reveals that they’re inspired by Mew, Charizard…

…and Gengar.

Their zipper pulls also have a Poké Ball design, but with the darker color material, the effect is more of a stealth salute to other in-the-know fans.

And if you want your head to be as cozy as the rest of your upper body, Gu has a pair of Fleece Full-zip Parkas.

The color scheme alone for the above version will have fans thinking of franchise mascot Pikachu, but in the case of the green-and-blue hoodie, the Pokémon patch has to create the connection by itself.

The Full-zip Knit Jackets are priced at 4,990 yen (US$31), while the others are all 3,990 yen. The whole lineup goes on sale at GU retail stores and through the chain’s online store here on October 23, by which time even I’ll have to admit that it’s time for fall fashions.
