Toronto police pursued suspect who shot at US consulate, but stopped after suspect drove over 140 km/h Police say suspect opened fire on US consulate in Toronto despite there being a marked police car present A marked Toronto police cruiser was stationed outside the U.S. consulate around 4:46 a.m. Monday morning when the officer heard a gunshot and saw a white, late model Honda Accord with no license plates, fleeing the area. Deputy Chief Frank Barredo in an update Monday morning said police gave chase to the fleeing vehicle, but terminated their pursuit as speeds at times reached “in excess of 140 km/h, so we are dealing with quite a dangerous individual or individuals.” Police discontinued their pursuit northbound on the DVP near Don Mills. Evidence at the scene showed that one single shot was fired. Police did not provide a description of the suspect; no injuries were reported. Barredo said no air support was available at the time of the chase. Earlier this year, the U.S. Consulate was targeted in a shooting that American authorities linked to an alleged international campaign from Iranian-backed groups against targets in Europe and North America. An Iraqi national in the U.S. is facing terrorism offences tied to the March 10 shooting.
