A woman who won £1 million in a UK lottery draw decided to share her good fortune by giving £5,000 to her neighbours of 14 years so their family could take its first holiday abroad. Honorata Jamrozik, a mother of two from Dartford, Kent, received the tax-free prize through the Omaze Monthly Millionaire Draw in 2026.
Rather than keeping the entire windfall for herself and her family, she wanted to help people who had been part of her life for years, turning her unexpected win into an opportunity for others to make lasting memories together.
A lottery winner gave £5,000 to her neighbours for their first holiday abroad
According to the Good News Network, Jamrozik's first act of generosity after winning the million-pound prize was to surprise her neighbours with £5,000 for a family getaway. The neighbours had known her family for 14 years, and their longstanding relationship made the gift particularly meaningful. For Jamrozik, the money represented more than a financial reward. It gave her the chance to share an experience that the neighbouring family had not previously enjoyed. The gift was intended to cover a holiday abroad, allowing them to spend time together away from their usual routines and create memories as a family.Jamrozik explained that her neighbours had been wonderful to her family since they moved in and that she regarded them as family.
She was happy that the prize had given her the means to help them enjoy a break together.
A win that came during a difficult period
The circumstances surrounding Jamrozik's win made the news especially significant. The Good News Network reported that she had been grieving the death of her father just two weeks before learning about her new fortune. She discovered that she had won after returning from his funeral in Poland.Born in Poland, Jamrozik had lived in the UK for 25 years. She viewed the unexpected prize through the lens of her recent loss, believing that her father had somehow sent the gift to her.
She described him as an angel who would always remain by her side.Although the money could not change the loss she had experienced, it offered an opportunity to make life easier for her family and the people close to her. Her decision to share some of it with her neighbours reflected the importance she placed on those relationships.
Her lottery win could also bring her back to fostering
Alongside the gift to her neighbours, the prize opened the door for Jamrozik to return to work she had previously found deeply rewarding.
According to the Good News Network, she had spent 7 years providing foster care before stepping away to look after her elderly parents in Poland.Caring for her parents involved frequent travel between the UK and Poland, making it difficult for her to continue fostering. The financial pressure and practical demands of that responsibility meant she had to put the work aside, despite her strong attachment to it.Jamrozik had previously cared for children of different ages and wanted to help those who had experienced difficult beginnings in life.
She said the win would allow her to resume fostering, giving her a chance to continue supporting children who needed a stable and caring home.
The couple are planning a special anniversary holiday
Jamrozik's generosity towards her neighbours did not mean that she and her own family would miss out on celebrating their good fortune. The Good News Network reported that she and her husband, who had been married for almost 20 years, were planning a special trip to mark their wedding anniversary in October 2026.She had already started considering a family holiday somewhere special. The couple also intended to take her mother along, believing that she deserved a break. Her husband had not known that she was entering the Omaze draws. According to the report, he had been sceptical about their chances of winning because neither of them had won anything before. He had even joked that she was more likely to be struck by lightning than win a million pounds. The result was a surprise for both of them, transforming an ordinary monthly entry into an opportunity to plan a memorable anniversary and help relatives and friends.
The Omaze draw supports charities in the UK
The Omaze Monthly Millionaire Draw, through which Jamrozik won her prize, offers one UK participant £1 million tax-free each month, according to the Good News Network report. Jamrozik entered through a subscription costing £15 a month. The draw also raises money for charitable causes across the UK. The report stated that Omaze had raised more than £140 million for its UK charity partners since launching in 2020.
