Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to ensure that Indiramma housing projects proposed in the Core Urban Region (CURE) are located within existing habitations so that beneficiaries remain close to employment opportunities and essential civic infrastructure.

Reviewing the progress of the CURE Indiramma Housing programme with senior officials in Hyderabad on Friday (July 24), the Chief Minister instructed them to identify unused government lands belonging to various departments within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits. Officials presented details of vacant parcels already identified in several Assembly constituencies.

Mr. Reddy asked the officials to utilise surplus lands belonging to the Police, Revenue and Transport departments for the housing programme and, wherever necessary, allot alternative land to the respective departments. He cautioned against constructing housing colonies in isolated locations, saying such projects could become underutilised as beneficiaries would face difficulties accessing jobs and livelihoods.

Emphasising that housing projects should be developed near workplaces and established residential areas, the Chief Minister said the approach would help economically weaker families sustain their livelihoods while benefiting from better connectivity and public services.

The State government has announced the construction of Indiramma housing apartments for the urban poor in the CURE area. Each flat will have a built-up area of about 528 sq. ft. and a carpet area of 400 sq. ft. The estimated construction cost is around ₹11 lakh per unit, with the government providing a ₹5 lakh subsidy and beneficiaries contributing the remaining ₹6 lakh. The entire land cost will be borne by the government.

In the first phase, the government plans to construct 7,680 flats across 17 Assembly constituencies. These include Rajendranagar, Maheshwaram, Serilingampally, Ibrahimpatnam, Malkajgiri, Nampally, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Karwan, Bahadurpura, Amberpet, Kukatpally, Medchal, Quthbullapur, Sanathnagar, Secunderabad Cantonment and Malakpet.

Ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, R&B Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, Director General of Police C.V. Anand were among present.
