After briefly halting at the Karur Circuit House following a public event at Atlas Kalaiarangam in the town, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay arrives at the Karur District Collectorate on Friday. During a government function here, the CM will hand over government job appointment orders to 32 members of the families of the 41 people who lost their lives in the stampede during the TVK rally in September 2025.

DMK’s deputy general secretary and MP Kanimozhi, who was speaking to journalists at Thoothukudi on Friday, said: “Karur stampede case is under probe. People know who helped them at the time of distress; sensitivity, responsibility is important,” while reacting to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK president Vijay’s speech at Karur earlier in the day. 

Upon his arrival at Karur Circuit House on Friday afternoon, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay was accorded the Guard of Honour.

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, on Friday (July 10, 2026), permitted the Tamil Nadu government to issue appointment orders to the families of victims of Karur stampede incident. However, it would be on temporary basis subject to judicial review, the court said. — Tilak B. Chandar

During his address at Atlas Kalaiarangam in Karur on Friday, Chief Minister Mr. Vijay said, “In every department, they (DMK government) had looted people’s money in the name of ‘party fund’. When I mentioned this in Assembly, they ‘ran away’. Those who said corruption cannot be eradicated, go and see government offices now; not a paisa is being taken as bribe. People heave a sigh of relief and we (TVK government) are so happy.”

He went on to add: “What we have seen is only a sample; you will see our viswaroopam in the coming days. They ask me to open my mouth; but when I started speaking they run away.” — S. Ganesan

While campaigning at Ariyalur, police advised me not to go to Perambalur as the crowd was heavy; they could have done the same before I headed to Karur from Namakkal - but they led me to Karur and I believed them. TVK’s Karur West district secretary V.P. Mathiyazhagan welcomes Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during his maiden visit to Karur since the stampede last year. The Chief Minister will hand over appointment orders to the members of 32 families affected by the tragic stampede.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will be meeting the family members of the victims who died in the tragic stampede at a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party rally addressed by him on September 27 last year. 

He will also hand over appointment orders on compassionate grounds to 32 family members of the victims.

Mr. Vijay will lay the foundation stone for Evervan Kothari Footwear Private Limited, which will come up at Manavasi near Krishnarayapuram with an investment of ₹1,700 crore.

He will also address a public meeting at the outskirts of the city.

AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran criticises the TVK government’s move to give government jobs to the kin of Karur stampede victims. “The government’s move to provide jobs to the families of those who. lost their lives in the stampede that occurred during the TVK election rally in Karur goes against the norms of the government and the principle of equal opportunities,” he says.

Security has been tightened to ensure the smooth conduct of the programmes.

Led by T.S. Anbu, Additional Director General of Police, about 5000 policemen drawn from different parts of the State have been deployed for security.

To prevent overcrowding, access to the primary meeting venues has been strictly regulated through designated entry-exit buffer zones.

A senior police officer said that security arrangements have been made to oversee crowd management, traffic regulation, venue security and emergency response preparedness.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam workers have erected banners in different parts of the city as a mark of welcoming their leader. 

Huge ‘pandals’ have been erected at Atlas Kalaiarangam, the main venue, where the Chief Minister is expected to address a massive public gathering. Passes with digital QR codes have been issued to about 5000 cadres. They have begun to assemble.

Karur, the textile town, has geared up to receive Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who is making his maiden official visit since he assumed office. More importantly, it marks his first visit since the devastating stampede that claimed 41 lives during the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam pre-election campaign rally addressed by him. 

Mr. Vijay will hand over appointment orders to family members of the 32 victims of the stampede. He will meet the relatives of the victims and the survivors, who were injured in the stampede. They have been brought to the Collector’s Office, where he will meet them.
