Australia Women began their three-match ODI series against Bangladesh Women at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on October 9. After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the hosts put Bangladesh under pressure early and bowled them out for 166 in 49.4 overs. Australia then completed a comfortable chase, reaching 168/3 in just 25.4 overs to win by seven wickets. The result gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Alana King pulls off a stunning diving catch

The moment came in the eighth over when Annabel Sutherland bowled a short delivery to Sharmin. The batter attempted a shot but sent the ball into the air, allowing Alana King to complete a difficult catch. King reacted quickly, dived full-length to her left and held on to the ball.

She stayed down briefly to ensure she had secured the catch before getting back to her feet as her teammates celebrated. Sharmin departed for 24 off 26 balls, including five boundaries, at 33/3 after 7.5 overs. King took the catch while Sutherland picked up her first wicket of the innings.

Phoebe Litchfield guides Australia to a dominant win

Bangladesh struggled to build partnerships after Megan Schutt dismissed Fargana Hoque for a golden duck with the first ball of the match and removed Sharmin Sultana for four. Captain Nigar Sultana scored 29 off 86 balls, while Ritu Moni top-scored with 45 off 63 deliveries. However, Sutherland’s 4/30 helped Australia bowl out the visitors for 166. In reply, debutant Georgia Voll scored 19 before Habiba Islam claimed her maiden WODI wicket.

Phoebe Litchfield then took control of the chase with an unbeaten 77 off 57 balls, hitting 10 boundaries and a six. Ellyse Perry contributed 26, while Beth Mooney added 13. Habiba finished with two wickets for 36 runs, but Bangladesh could not prevent Australia from reaching the target in 25.4 overs. Litchfield and the remaining batters ensured a comfortable seven-wicket victory for the hosts.
