Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Sheffield Shield 2026-27 season produced a remarkable moment of wicketkeeping brilliance on October 19, as Victoria and Tasmania faced off at Bellerive Oval, also known as Ninja Stadium. Victorian wicketkeeper Liam Blackford stole the spotlight with an outstanding diving catch to send Tasmania captain Jordan Silk back to the pavilion during the opening session of the contest.
The dismissal showcased Blackford’s sharp reflexes, athleticism and concentration, turning what initially appeared to be a difficult chance into a spectacular piece of fielding.
Liam Blackford stuns Jordan Silk with incredible catch
The incident occurred when Victorian pacer Harry Hoekstra managed to find the outside edge of Silk’s bat. The ball flew sharply behind the stumps, leaving Blackford with very little time to react.
However, the young wicketkeeper responded brilliantly, throwing himself into a full-length dive to reach the ball. Although the delivery struck his gloves and momentarily threatened to slip out, Blackford displayed remarkable composure to grab it on the second attempt before landing on the ground.
The stunning double grab brought Silk’s innings to an early end, with the Tasmanian skipper departing for just one run. It was a disappointing start for the visitors’ captain, while Victoria celebrated a breakthrough made possible by an exceptional individual effort.

Blackford shines behind the stumps as Harry Hoekstra takes a 5-fer
Blackford’s sensational effort proved to be more than just an isolated moment of brilliance. The Victorian wicketkeeper continued to impress throughout the opening session, completing four catches and playing a crucial role in his side’s early dominance.
His performance demonstrated the importance of reliable wicketkeeping in first-class cricket, where sharp chances can quickly change the course of an innings. Blackford’s ability to hold on to difficult opportunities also ensured that Victoria made the most of the pressure created by their bowlers.
While Blackford provided the fireworks behind the stumps, Hoekstra delivered an equally impressive performance with the ball. The Victorian bowler took advantage of Tasmania’s early struggles and kept finding ways to trouble the opposition batters. His breakthrough against Silk helped Victoria maintain their momentum, and Hoekstra continued to make inroads into the Tasmanian batting order. The bowler eventually completed a five-wicket haul, capping off a dominant spell on the opening morning.
