NEW DELHI: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was briefly trapped in a lift at a private hotel in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday before being rescued along with others after the elevator got stuck.Visuals showed a smiling Tharoor walking out of the lift after authorities managed to open its doors.

"The lift got stuck. We tried every possible way to get out, but nothing worked. We called the Fire and Rescue Services, and they rescued us... Don't worry, we are all okay," the Thiruvananthapuram MP told reporters later.

A fire officer said they received a call a little after 7:30pm about Tharoor being trapped in the lift of the hotel and immediately a team was rushed there.Upon arriving at the hotel, the team used a hydraulic spreader to pry open the doors of the lift and rescued the Congress leader and the others trapped with him at around 7:51pm.The incident occurred when Tharoor arrived at the hotel to attend the installation ceremony of the Rotary Club of Trivandrum East.He later felicitated the Fire and Rescue Services personnel for their swift response.
