A wildfire broke out in Belcarra Park on Wednesday afternoon near Port Moody and Anmore. Firefighters rushed to the scene.

A wildfire broke out in Belcarra Park near Port Moody and Anmore on Wednesday afternoon.

The Coastal Fire Centre says the fire is a ground fire under the power lines in the area behind Crystal Creek and is an estimated 1.5 hectares in size as of 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

It is considered out of control according to the BC Wildfire Service on Wednesday evening.

The Village of Anmore has placed 35 properties on evacuation alert due to this fire.

The alert applies to these properties:

  • Along Fern Drive, North of Magnolia Way (Fern drive addresses: 230, 145, 147, 220, 210, 200, 131, 2880, 2885, 2887, 2871, 2910, 2890, 2911, 2918, 2917, 2926, 2919, 2932, 2936, 2940, 2923)
  • Along Oak Court (Oak Court addresses: 143, 141, 139, 137, 135, 133)
  • Properties northeast along Crystal Creek Drive (Crystal Creek Drive addresses: 1455, 1451, 1445, 1429, 1421, 1403)

This is the time for residents to get prepared to leave their home on short notice.

The fire centre says there are initial attack crews with aerial support working on this fire and they are also working with the local fire department.

At this time, there is no immediate threat to nearby structures, critical infrastructure, or public safety, officials say.

The fire is creating some white smoke that can be seen from surrounding communities.

The cause remains under investigation, but it is suspected to be human-caused.
