Adam Ramsay-Peaty has bemoaned the Commonwealth bronze he achieved on Monday and insists his training is worthy of a greater result

Adam Ramsay-Peaty has claimed that his Commonwealth results "would be a lot better" if they actually reflected his training.

The Brit had to settle for bronze in the 50m breaststroke, which comes days after he also finished third in the 100m event. It represents a drop for the athlete who dominated the sport previously and came into the event as the defending champion following his success four years ago.

Ramsay-Peaty has had to try and rediscover the form he showed when he dominated the breaststroke events but was twice beaten by Australia's Sam Williamson.

The 31-year-old was much more measured on Monday night having had to fight back the tears on Saturday when he came up short, but still felt his work didn't marry up with his performances.

He said: "I am working way too hard. If those results were how much I am working then they would be a lot better. I need to look at that and adjust course because we are sailing in some rough seas right now and it is not sustainable. I have come back from worse and we will see where we end up."

He finished the race in 26.94 seconds - 0.44 behind Williamson - despite suggesting that the 50m event provided him with a better chance of success given it was a shorter distance and he was not north of 30.

Ramsay-Peaty has been at a loss to explain some of his performances but remains determined to head to the Olympics in Los Angeles in four years time.

"I thought I could have done better there," he said after finishing third. "It is quite disappointing in terms of the time, and, as we know, times equal medals. I felt I could have been a little quicker, but I need to look at it and see where it is going on because nothing makes sense this week to be honest."

Since proving himself as one of the all-time greats Ramsay-Peaty has undergone huge life changes, marrying Holly Ramsay, whom is pregnant with his second child. His first, George, came from a previous relationship.

When he was dominating it owed to the coaching of Mel Marshall, who relocated to Australia in 2024. He has now moved back to London to work under Lisa Bates and will embark on a period of reflection.

"It is hard work, but we need to make sure that hard work is going in the right place," he said. "These things don't happen in three months; they happen in two years and we need to make sure we keep investing."
