Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAn exclusive report from Variety has shared cast expansions for acclaimed filmmaker Justine Triet’s upcoming thriller feature Fonda, scheduled to be her first English-language film. The recent cast list includes Odessa A’zion, Ewan Mitchell, Cherry Jones, Benedict Wong, and Allison Janney, who all join Mia Goth and Andrew Scott.
Triet is most known for her legal drama Anatomy of a Fall, made from a script the French filmmaker co-wrote with Arthur Harai (co-writer and director of Onoda: 10,000 Nights in the Jungle, which earned him a César Award for Best Original Screenplay) which debuted at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in 2023, where it went on to receive the highest established Palme d’Or, as well as the Palm Dog Award, and strived for the Queer Palm. The film stars Sandra Hüller (who’s just appeared in Project Hail Mary) as a writer who must testify to her innocence in court when she is accused of murdering her husband, who was found dead at the bottom of a window in the couple’s house.
Now, Triet’s latest feature Fonda reads as a “psychological thriller set in a seemingly idyllic huis clos,” aiming to take viewers “on a vertiginous dive into the shifting limits of a sound mind, as grief and obsession take hold.”
As for the cast’s history, A’Zion starred in the 2022 Hellraiser remake by David Bruckner, the HBO series I Love LA, and most famously in Ben Safdie’s Oscar-nominated Marty Supreme alongside Timothée Chalamet.
Meanwhile, Jones can be recognised as Holly Maddox in the second, third and fifth seasons of the Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale, based on the 1985 Margaret Atwood novel of the same title. Mitchell has previously appeared as Aemond Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon and Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn and Wuthering Heights adaptation.
Wong is known for his work in Weapons by Zach Creggar and the MCU’s Doctor Strange, while Janney is credited in Craig Gillespie’s I, Tonya.
Anatomy of a Fall also won the Best Original Screenplay at both the BAFTAs and the Academy Awards in 2024, two Golden Globes and countless other awards. It grossed over $36million globally from its $6.7million budget.
