Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu has directed officials and architects to ensure that the under-construction Legislative Assembly building in Amaravati should be developed as a future-ready, people-friendly institution, combining advanced technology, efficient functioning and world-class facilities.

Mr. Ayyanna Patrudu held a high-level meeting with the representatives and engineers of Norman Foster + Partners at the Secretariat on Wednesday to review the proposed design.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana, Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar and Secretary General to the State Legislature Prasanna Kumar Suryadevara participated in the discussions.

The meeting focused on the internal design of the Assembly building, including the chambers, committee halls, offices for elected representatives, media facilities, security systems, parking and visitor movement. Particular attention was paid to the design of a high-rise tower atop the Assembly building, from where the capital Amaravati could be viewed.

Mr. Manohar said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wanted Amaravati to emerge as one of the world’s most outstanding capitals. He said the Assembly design was being prepared keeping future delimitation and long-term requirements in mind, with provision for 265 Assembly seats and 110 Legislative Council seats.

He said an Experience Centre was proposed to give visitors an understanding of the State’s democratic system and legislative processes. A central hall would enable members of both Houses to sit together during the Governor’s address.

The Assembly complex would have underground parking, while the area above it would be developed as a green, garden-like space, Mr. Manohar said. He added that enhanced facilities were being planned for ministers, whips, committee chairpersons, MLAs and MLCs.

The Norman Foster + Partners team explained the proposed arrangements for public representatives, officials, media and visitors. The discussions emphasised integrating modern infrastructure, greenery, accessibility, security and technology to create a landmark legislative complex befitting Amaravati’s proposed global stature.
