The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of a greenfield connectivity corridor linking Jewar International Airport with the Faridabad–Ballabhgarh–Sohna spur of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway at a revised cost of ₹3,631 crore.

An official communique on Tuesday said the project will include a 7.8-km elevated corridor designed to provide direct connectivity between the upcoming airport and the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway network.

The project invisions about 7.8 km of the alignment will pass through the notified urban limits under the Faridabad Master Plan 2031.

Accordingly, the proposed corridor will intersect several major transport networks, including the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, the Yamuna Expressway, and the Dedicated Freight Corridor.

The communique stated that the greenfield road will strengthen connectivity between Jewar airport, Faridabad and Delhi, and is part of efforts to integrate the airport with the broader expressway network in the National Capital Region.

In another development, a delegation from the airport met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Tuesday and presented the Aerodrome License issued by the central government.

According to official statement, the grant of the licence enables the process for the airport’s inauguration and the commencement of commercial flight operations to move forward.

During the meeting, the airport management also briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of the project and upcoming phases.

At present, the airport’s Aerodrome Security Programme is under review by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.

Once security clearance is obtained, the airport management will coordinate with the relevant authorities and stakeholders like airlines to finalise the date for the formal inauguration and the start of commercial operations.

Noida International Airport, located at Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar district, is being developed as a greenfield aviation project aimed at strengthening connectivity between the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh with major domestic and international destinations.

The airport is being developed in four phases. In the first phase, one runway and one passenger terminal building have been constructed with an annual capacity of approximately 1.2 crore passengers.

In the second phase, capacity will be expanded to 3 crore passengers, while the third and fourth phases aim to increase the overall capacity to around 7 crore passengers annually.

Besides, the terminal building in the first phase will have an area of about 1.38 lakh square metres and will include 48 check-in counters, nine security check lanes and nine immigration counters.

Furthermore, the airport will have 10 aerobridges and 28 aircraft parking stands, while the runway has been designed to handle around 30 flight operations per hour.

In addition, a cargo and logistics hub is being developed within the airport complex.

Additionally, during the initial phase, the facility is expected to handle approximately 2.5 lakh tonnes of cargo annually, with plans to expand capacity to 1.5 million tonnes in subsequent phases.
