CARTAGO, COSTA RICA – With the goal of strengthening the productive capacity of female entrepreneurs in rural areas of Cartago, the Rural Development Institute (Inder) has officially delivered industrial textile equipment to nine local beneficiaries. The project represents a significant step forward in rural economic empowerment, funded through Inder’s Production Promotion and Food Security service.

A Strategic Investment in Rural Communities

The initiative required an investment exceeding ¢15 million CRC. It aims to directly accelerate the growth of home-grown micro-enterprises and expand sustainable income-generating opportunities for families in the region.

This project is part of a broader economic and social development strategy executed within the Cartago-El Guarco-Oreamuno-La Unión Rural Territory, widely known as the Correque region. The targeted distribution ensures that the economic impact directly reaches households in key rural communities, including:

  • Corralillo
  • Llano Grande
  • San Nicolás
  • Tierra Blanca

Industrial Machinery Meets Specialized Training

The support package goes beyond financial aid, delivering fully equipped specialized sewing modules. The industrial-grade machinery provided to the nine entrepreneurs includes:

  • Advanced Embroidery Machines: To allow detailed branding and design customization.
  • Industrial Cutting Tools: Enhancing speed and precision during fabric preparation.
  • Flat Sewing, Coverstitch, and Overlock Machines: Offering professional-grade finishes for high-quality garment manufacturing and repair.
  • Ergonomic Worktables: Optimizing workflow safety and productivity in local workshops.

Recognizing that equipment is only as powerful as the skills behind it, Inder has integrated comprehensive training processes into the program. Beneficiaries are currently participating in courses designed to develop both technical textile expertise and core human development capabilities. This holistic approach ensures long-term self-employment success and enterprise sustainability.

“Rural development is built by creating real opportunities for entrepreneurial families. With this delivery of equipment, we are supporting the effort, dedication, and talent of women who are strengthening their productive activity today and generating new economic opportunities for their homes and communities.” — Ricardo Quesada Salas, Executive President of Inder

Dynamizing the Local Economy

By empowering female-led households, Inder’s localized strategy focuses heavily on driving job creation from the ground up. This hands-on investment model is designed to stimulate local circular economies, reduce regional unemployment, and contribute materially to the overarching well-being of Costa Rica’s rural territories.
