The Uttarakhand government on Friday opened the online registration portal for the Char Dham Yatra. Devotees can now sign up for the annual pilgrimage to the Himalayan temples. The government has introduced compulsory online registration through several digital platforms to ensure better management of the large number of pilgrims who visit the shrines each year.
Char Dham Yatra Registration Opens From Today
The registration process began at 7 AM and is mandatory for all pilgrims planning to visit the shrines.
The pilgrimage will start on April 19 with the opening of the portals of Yamunotri and Gangotri temples.
Kedarnath temple will open three days later on April 22, while Badrinath temple will welcome devotees from April 23.
Ways to Register for Char Dham Yatra
Devotees planning to undertake the Char Dham Yatra can register through several online and offline options. Pilgrims can visit the official website, registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in, or use the “Tourist Care Uttarakhand" mobile application to complete the process.
Registration is also available through WhatsApp by sending “Yatra" to 8394833833, while assistance can be sought through the toll-free helpline number 01351364.
For those who prefer offline registration, physical counters are available at locations including Haridwar (Rahi Hotel), Rishikesh (ISBT) and other designated centers.
Documents and Other Key Details
Pilgrims must carry valid identification documents such as an Aadhaar card, Voter ID, Passport or Driving Licence during the journey. A medical certificate is required for travellers above 50 years of age or those with existing health conditions such as asthma or diabetes.
The registration process involves creating an account, filling in personal details, selecting travel dates and downloading a QR code for verification. Officials have clarified that the registration for the Char Dham Yatra is free of cost.
Pilgrims can register using their Aadhaar cards through the official portal or through the Tourist Care Uttarakhand mobile application. Officials said entry to the Char Dham shrines will not be allowed without prior registration. Foreign nationals can also complete the process through the email facility available on the registration portal.
To help those who may not be comfortable with digital platforms, the government will also provide offline registration facilities starting April 17.
Physical counters will be set up at several locations including the Yatra Registration Centre and Transit Camp in Rishikesh, Rishikul Ground in Haridwar and Vikasnagar in Dehradun.
Local tourism businesses are already expecting a rise in visitors. Shailendra Matura, president of the Uttarkashi Hotel Association, said hotel bookings in the region are currently between 8 and 10 per cent, but this number is likely to grow soon.
