The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has asked online food delivery platform Zomato to strengthen checks on restaurants and other food businesses listed on its platform, including verification of their Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licences before onboarding.

The issue was discussed during a follow-up meeting between CMC Commissioner G. Srijana and representatives of Zomato’s legal team on Friday (August 7, 2026), as part of the civic body’s ongoing food safety inspections and coordination with online food delivery platforms.

According to the CMC, the discussions included delisting Food Business Operators (FBOs) found repeatedly violating food safety and hygiene norms. The corporation also sought stronger compliance checks before establishments — that had faced action over violations — are allowed to return to the platform.

The corporation officials asked the food delivery platform to verify FSSAI licence number, its validity and category of business for which the licence was issued before onboarding an establishment. Measures to prevent multiple establishments from operating or being listed under a single FSSAI licence too was discussed.

Zomato representatives assured the corporation of cooperation in implementing measures aimed at strengthening compliance at the platform level, the CMC said.
