There is set to be a public wake for Glen Hansard following the singer's death hours after he had performed in a bar in a village near Dublin

The heartbreaking last moments of Glen Hansard were caught on camera hours before his tragic death. The video captured the musician's huge talent as the frontman of The Frames was seen singing and playing an acoustic guitar at The Wren’s Nest pub in Chapelizod, a suburban village of Dublin.

Just hours later, the singer died in a motorcycle accident in the village of Lucan, west of his home city of Dublin. He was aged 56.

The footage of his performance showed the star taking part in one of the pub's regular traditional Irish music sessions. The clip, which was filmed on Tuesday night (July 28), saw Glen singing at around 11.15pm. He sadly crashed at around 4.30am.

As the clip was shared online, many of his fans praised his huge talent and shared messages of condolence. It's been confirmed that a public wake is to be held for the Oscar-winning musician. It will be held in Dublin, and people will be able to pay their respects.

The wake, which is to be held in the Baroque Chapel at the Irish Museum of Modern Art at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, will take place between 11am and 4pm on Monday.

A day later, the star's funeral will take place at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin. It will take place at 1.30pm and will also be open to the public. There will be a public address system in place outside the cathedral, and it will be available to view online.

A funeral notice stated that music will be performed by Hansard’s friends and family. A message on the musician's Instagram page read: "We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of love this week, thank you all for taking the time to share your memories.

"In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family has asked that donations be made to Simon Community & Ukrainian Action."

On Wednesday, his death was confirmed in a heartbreaking statement. It read: "With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Glen Hansard, who passed away in the early hours of this morning, following a road traffic accident in Dublin. Glen's family is deeply shocked and heartbroken by this tragic loss and respectfully requests privacy at this extremely difficult time.

"The family is grateful for the support they have received and wishes to thank the emergency services who attended the scene. As this matter remains the subject of an active Garda investigation, no further comment will be made at this time."

Hansard, 56, was the frontman for the Irish band The Frames, featured in the Irish film The Commitments, and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for Falling Slowly in 2007, which he co-wrote with Markéta Irglová for the movie Once.

He was one half of the rock duo The Swell Season, and released solo albums, including Didn’t He Ramble, which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Folk Album in 2016.
