The first trailer has arrived for In the Grey, the latest action thriller from Guy Ritchie, and it looks set to deliver the kind of slick, fast-paced crime drama the director has become known for.

The film brings together an impressive cast led by Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill, who play two highly skilled operatives working within the shadowy world between legality and criminality. Operating in the murky territory suggested by the film’s title, the pair are part of an elite unit that handles dangerous missions others cannot touch.

The newly released trailer offers a first glimpse at the film’s stylish tone, packed with intense action, dark humour and the kind of sharp dialogue that has become synonymous with Ritchie’s filmmaking. Alongside Gyllenhaal and Cavill, the film also stars Eiza González, Rosamund Pike and Fisher Stevens, suggesting a strong ensemble supporting the central duo.

The story centres on two extraction specialists who are tasked with rescuing a high-profile negotiator after she is kidnapped. As the mission unfolds, the operatives must navigate a dangerous web of criminal organisations, political interests and covert operations, blurring the lines between hero and anti-hero.

For Ritchie, the project continues his recent run of high-profile action films, following titles such as The Covenant and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Known for his energetic storytelling and distinctive visual style, the director appears to be leaning once again into the gritty action territory that audiences have come to expect.

The pairing of Gyllenhaal and Cavill is likely to be one of the film’s biggest draws, with both actors bringing strong action credentials and on-screen charisma to the roles. From the brief footage shown so far, their dynamic appears to be built around tension, wit and a shared willingness to operate in morally complicated territory. While the trailer only offers a taste of what’s to come, In the Grey already looks poised to deliver another high-octane thriller from Ritchie — blending espionage, action and a touch of dark comedy.

In The Grey is set for US cinemas on May 15th. A UK release is still TBC.
