What we need is not fewer dog waste bins (Report, 30 October) but fewer dogs. If dogs in Hillingdon, London, excrete 174 tonnes of faeces each year, as your article says, just imagine multiplying that by all the boroughs and all regions of the country. The quantity beggars belief. For the sake of the health of the nation and to generate some income, bring back the dog licence immediately to help pay for this.

The biggest short-play festival in the UK (Letters, 27 October), and possibly the world, takes place in the market town of Halesworth, Suffolk. In 2015, we staged 15 plays at the first Ink festival; now in its 12th year, the five-day festival produces 70 original short plays from 1,000 script submissions.
