It’s been reported that the Jamie Lee Curtis-led Murder, She Wrote film has a new release date, moving it from late 2027 to early 2028.

The decision reportedly comes as Universal feels it will be better to avoid placing the film alongside Christmas releases. Murder, She Wrote will be a feature adaptation of the iconic, original CBS series starring Angela Lansbury as a mystery author, tasked with solving real-life crimes.

The show was created by Peter S. FischerRichard Levinson, and William Link and aired from late 1984 to early 1996.

Lansbury’s performance as Jessica Fletcher made history with a total of ten Golden Globe award nominations, of which she won four, in addition to 12 Emmy nominations, making her the most nominated Best Actress in Golden Globe history and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in Emmy history.

Lansbury passed away in 2022 at the age of 96, thankfully receiving an honorary Oscar in 2013. Murder, She Wrote has given me more worldwide attention than any other role I played in the movies or on the stage,” she shared in her acceptance speech.

The film adaptation was initially announced in September 2023, with Curtis’s casting as Fletcher announced the following summer. Theatre director and filmmaker Jason Moore is set to direct. Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Aditya Sood will take on production.

Curtis has recently appeared in James L. Brooks’s comedy-drama Ella McCay and reprised her role as Tess Coleman in Nisha Ganatra’s Freakier Fridaythe sequel to the 2003 classic Freaky Friday.
