Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday scuffled with the police during their attempt to break through barricades near the Jharkhand Chief Minister’s residence, leading to the detention of 8-10 agitators, an official said.

The incident took place during the ABVP’s Jharkhand unit’s march towards the CM’s residence to express solidarity with students protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment exams. The march commenced at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University in Ranchi.- PTI

The Jharkhand government on Saturday (August 8, 2026) held talks with the Devendra Nath Mahto-led faction of the job aspirants over the alleged paper leaks, but failed to break the deadlock as the protestors decided that their agitation would continue until all their demands are met.

Jharkhand State Crime Investigation Department (CID) probing the case of alleged irregularities in competitive exams for government recruitments in the State, has now served notices to three serving members of Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) .

As per the source, the investigating agency has summoned three current JPSC members—Ajita Bhattacharya, Anima Hansda, and Jamal Ahmed and asked them to appear before the agency on August 10, 12, and 14, respectively.

A designated delegation of the Student protestors in Jharkhand left for the Circuit House for dialogue with representatives of the Jharkhand Government regarding the demands of the aspirants.

“The team has told us that we will go for a dialogue at the Circuit House at 10 a.m. Had the government agreed to our demands when the other students met them, then it wouldn’t have been necessary for us to go as well. It doesn’t matter how many of us go to meet them. All of us have the same demands, which should be fulfilled,” said Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto.- ANI

Chandan Kumar, a student delegation member said, “...we want all examinations conducted by the TDPL agency on behalf of the JPSC since 2022 to be cancelled immediately. In addition, Abhay Tiwari, who was the marketing manager of the TDPL agency, appeared in several examinations, including the JSSC CGL and PGT examinations. Those examinations should also be cancelled.”- PTI

Jivan Kumar Yadav, spokesperson, JPSC-JSSC Reform Manch, said, “Our plan today is that if the government invites us for talks again, our delegation will go and participate in the discussions. As you all may already know, we are going to stage a protest and gherao of the State Assembly on August 10. In this regard, students across Jharkhand will be called upon to participate. Shortly, our core committee will meet and finalise today’s programme, which will then be announced.” - PTI

Student protestor Kush Mahto says, “We have decided on 10 people, possibly, five from each side. The dialogue would take place under the leadership of Devendra Mahto... If our demands are not met, we will continue the hunger strike. We are growing weaker by the day, losing energy, but our morale is not breaking... If Hemant Soren doesn’t fulfill our demands this time, students from all over Jharkhand will join our hunger strike.”- ANI.

On July 23, students began gathering at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi. They arrived carrying bedding, notebooks and plastic folders filled with admit cards from examinations that, in many cases, had defined nearly a decade of their lives. Their demand was straightforward: cancel all examinations tainted by allegations of corruption, order an independent investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and overhaul the state’s recruitment system.
