Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayNew Line Cinema & Atomic Monster have begun working on a sequel to the 2016 supernatural horror sleeper hit, Lights Out.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros have hired up-and-comer Connor Osborn McIntyre (Animals) to write the screenplay for the sequel, which has been stuck in development in recent years. The original producer, Lawrence Grey, is due to return as producer, whilst original writer/director Eric Heisserer (Arrival) and David F. Sandberg (Shazam!) will also produce. Other producers include Ben Everard and Lotta Losten with Atomic Monster, the company run by James Wan, one of the original movie’s producers, also involved.
The original film was the directorial debut for Sandberg and was based on his own short film. It told of a ghost entity that lives in the shadow and dark recesses of buildings as it haunts a family. It starred Teresa Palmer, Maria Bello, Gabriel Bateman and Alexander DiPersia. Interestingly, plot details are currently kept in the dark.
For those who don’t know, McIntyre is viewed as a really exciting writer, so it’s really promising news for Lights Out fans. He wrote Animals, the upcoming dramatic thriller that stars Ben Affleck (who directs too), Gillian Anderson, Steven Yeun, and Kerry Washington. His original script, American Midnight, was featured on last year’s Black List of best unproduced screenplays and his original screenplay, Copenhagen, was sold to Makeready and Fifth Season.
