We've now had a statement from Greater Manchester Police, confirming the victim of the incident in Manchester city centre is aged in his 50s.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Emergency services are currently responding to an incident on Market Street Metrolink stop in Manchester City Centre after reports of man injured on the tracks.

"One man, aged in his 50s, has been taken to hospital where he is currently being treated for possibly life-changing injuries.

"No arrests have been made in relation to this incident, and a scene remains in place whilst enquiries continue."

Mirror Online has received further information about the incident currently ongoing in Manchester city centre.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We responded to a patient reportedly trapped between a tram and the platform."

The victim, a man, sustained an injury to one of his legs and was taken to hospital for further treatment.

A man has been taken to hospital after suffering an injury, Mirror Online can confirm.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "A man suffered a leg injury and was taken to hospital for further treatment."

No other details have been released.

A number of Metrolink officers have now been spotted on the platform at the Market Street tram stop.

One tram displaying a "Not in service" message is halted within the police cordon currently in place as a large emergency services presence was deployed to Manchester city centre.

No official statement has yet been made about the nature of the incident or any casualties involved.

The Mirror has contacted Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service for comment.

A video taken of the scene by Manchester Evening News reporter Amy Walker shows the tram halted within the cordon, with multiple officers guarding the yellow tape.

One of the shops within the cordon is Primark but there is no indication to suggest the store is involved in the incident.

Trams in Manchester city centre are disrupted as a result of the police incident this morning.

There is currently no service between Victoria and Piccadilly, Bee Network confirmed.

A picture from the scene on Market Street in Manchester city centre shows at least one ambulance in attendance.

Police vehicles are also seen in the same picture, with their blue lights on.

At least two incident response units are also parked in the vicinity of the street.

Incident response units are used in high-risk, complex or major emergencies that require specialist medical care inside dangerous or restricted environments, according to North West Ambulance Service.
