After worrying fans with a hospital stay earlier this month, author and motivational speaker Rachel Kolisi has shared an update on her recovery, and thankfully, she says she's doing just fine.
Rachel, who first sparked concern after posting photos from a hospital bed surrounded by family and friends, has now confirmed that she underwent shoulder surgery on Monday, 18 May.
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Rachel shared what she jokingly called a "proof of life" video.
"I thought I would do a proof of life video… and I also thought it would be best to do a video when I was off pain medication. Just to ensure nothing interesting comes out of my mouth," she said.
The Falling Forward author also reassured supporters that her recovery is progressing well.
"All is well… I'm going to attempt a shower today," she said, before addressing one particular hospital photo that left followers especially worried.
"I'm really sorry that I put that second picture on my post because it does look way more dramatic than it needed to be. But I was just trying to show that the kids were doing a facial for me, so I was trying to show something sweet."
Earlier this month, Rachel had shared a carousel of hospital images alongside a caption that mixed humour with honesty.
"Had a few ideas for the caption of this one!" she wrote.
"Took Falling Forward a little too seriously. POV: when you carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. Nothing like morphine and friendship. Doctors said, 'Take a load off.' I got competitive."
She later reassured followers: "On a serious note, all is well."
The hospital stay came during an exceptionally busy season for Rachel, who recently launched her book Falling Forward while balancing motherhood, work commitments, and public appearances. The surgery also forced her to pull out of a scheduled appearance at the Kingsmead Book Fair as she focused on recovery.
Rachel shares children Nicholas and Keziah with estranged husband Siya Kolisi, and also helped raise Siya's younger siblings, Liyema and Liphelo, after legally adopting them together years ago.
Now, a week post-op, Rachel appears to be focusing on healing and gratitude.
Sharing a glimpse into recovery life on Instagram, she wrote:
"Obviously not ideal. But it is what it is. Made it through the first week post-op, only because I have the most amazing people around me."
"So grateful for every call, lift, message, meal, kids pick up, homework and and and… Thank you. We move."
