Finally!
After a 14-year wait, Orlando Pirates were crowned PSL champions in front of a passionate and sold out Mbombela Stadium on Saturday after beating Orbit College FC.
It wasn’t the prettiest victory for the Buccaneers as two own goals saw Orlando Pirates beat the now relegated Orbit College 2-0.
FIRST TAKE | Mbombela erupts as Pirates’ long-awaited title shadowed by bizarre own goals
Pirates have successfully ended a 14-year league title drought, with their last PSL victory having come in the 2011/12 season.
However, it wasn’t the most convincing win as Orbit College handed the Premiership title to Pirates with a double own goal.
Goalkeeper Sabelo Nkomo punched a corner into his net in first-half added time and Ndumiso Ngiba lobbed the ball over the shot-stopper in the second-half to give the Buccaneers an easy win in their final league game of the season.
The win sees Orlando Pirates earn a handsome cheque of R20 million from the league’s sponsor.

Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou basked in title glory, hailed the Pirates fans throughout a tough and busy season, which included an MTN8 and Carling Knockout title.
“I am a happy coach having brought joy to millions of Pirates supporters. They had to wait 14 years for this so it is special,” Ouaddou told reporters.
“Some of our supporters panicked recently when we dropped points in draws. This Premiership is a very tough league and opponents usually raise their game when facing us.”
The Sea Robbers topped the Betway Premiership standings by one point ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, whose eight-season dominance has effectively ended.
Pirates title win was questioned by many despite winning 21 games this season.
Here are the reactions following Pirates historic win at Mbombela:
