BUCHAREST: Romania’s entertainment and media market is projected to hit 5.22 billion EUR, driven heavily by digital streaming and video content, according to PwC's Global Entertainment, Media & Telecommunications Outlook 2026–2030.

The Over-The-Top (OTT) video sector, dominated by SVOD platforms like Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video, will grow around 7% annually, expanding from 276 m EUR in 2025 to 389 m EUR by 2030. Total subscriptions surpassed 3.3 m in 2025.

Local cinema revenue is set to grow around 3% annually, reaching 74 m EUR by 2030 (up from 64 m EUR in 2025). The sector is being propelled by strong domestic film releases (such as Serge Ioan Celebidachi’s The Yellow Tie, and Cristian Iliușan and Eugene Buică’s The Neighbour) and the country's cash-rebate film production incentive scheme (capped at 10 m EUR per cycle).

PwCInternet advertising will hit 393 m EUR by 2030, with online video ads seeing the most dynamic push (around 10% annual growth), fueled by rising connected TV consumption.

“Romania’s entertainment and media market is following the same directions as globally, namely increasingly digital consumption, growing online advertising, and artificial intelligence redefining how content is created, distributed, and monetized. Advertising remains an essential revenue driver, supported by hyper-personalization, while digital consumption is fueled by the expansion of 5G networks and fiber optics. In an increasingly competitive environment, the advantage will go to companies that rethink their offerings through affordable packages for price-conscious consumers and premium, personalized experiences,” said Doina Bîrsan, Partner and Leader of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice, PwC Romania.

The Yellow Tie / Cravata galbenă was produced by Oblique Media Film (Romania), coproduced by Celi Films (UK) and released by Vertical Entertainment. The Neighbour / Vecina is produced and distributed by the Cluj-based outlet Bravo Films.
