A tense situation prevailed in the capital city on Monday night as clashes broke out between activists of the Students Federation of India (SFI) and Kerala Students Union (KSU) near Palayam. The clashes between the student unions of the CPI(M) and the Congress started following the victory celebrations of the respective organisations after the Kerala University Union elections. The police had to resort to lathciharge and use water cannons to bring the situation under control. CPI(M) leader M.V.Jayarajan who reached the spot accused the police of indulging in selective targetting of SFI activists.
