Slovak Republic’s Top 10 Exportsby Flagpictures.org

Also called the Slovak Republic, Slovakia shipped US$125.3 billion worth of exported products around the world in 2025.

That dollar amount results from a 19.6% increase from $104.7 billion 5 years earlier in 2021.

From 2024 to 2025, the overall value of Slovakian exports grew by 8.4% compared to $115.6 billion.

Based on the average exchange rate for 2025, Slovakia uses the euro which strengthened via a 4.4% gain against the US dollar from 2024 to 2025. The stronger European Union currency made Slovakia’s exports paid for in weaker US dollars modestly more expensive for international buyers starting with American currency.

Officially named the Slovak Republic, Slovakia is a member of the European Union strategically located in Central Europe. The mountainous country shares its northern border with Poland, eastern border with Ukraine, southern border with Hungary and western border with the Czech Republic and Austria.

Slovakia top 5 most valuable exported products are cars, automobile parts or accessories, phone devices including smartphones, television receivers or monitors and projectors, and rubber tires. Collectively, that cohort of major products represents 43.3% of total Slovakian revenues from export sales in 2025. That percentage suggests a relatively concentrated portfolio of exports.

Slovak’s Most Valuable Exports Customers

The latest available country-specific data shows that 78.6% of products exported from Slovakia was bought by importers in: Germany (21.3% of the Slovakian total), Czech Republic (12.5%), Hungary (7.8%), Poland (7.6%), Austria (5.4%), France (4.72%), United Kingdom (4.69%), Italy (4.4%), United States of America (3.3%), Romania (2.5%), Spain (2.4%) and the Netherlands (2%).

From a continental perspective, 87.6% of Slovakia’s exports by value was delivered to fellow European countries while 6.7% was sold to importers in Asia.

Slovakia shipped another 4% worth of goods to customers located in North America.

Smaller percentages went to buyers in Africa (0.8%), Latin America (0.45%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, then Oceania led by Australia and New Zealand (0.41%).

Slovakia sold 78.3% of its exports by value to fellow European Union member states. That percentage surpasses the 77.7% during the prior year.

Given Slovakia’s population of 5.42 million people, its total US$125.3 billion in 2025 exported goods translates to roughly $23,100 for every resident in the Central European nation. That dollar metric exceeds the average $21,300 per capita one year earlier in 2024.

The following export product groups represent the highest dollar value in Slovakian global shipments during 2025. Also shown is the percentage share each export category represents in terms of overall exports from Slovakia.

  1. Vehicles: US$43.7 billion (34.8% of total exports)
  2. Electrical machinery, equipment: $19.6 billion (15.7%)
  3. Machinery including computers: $14 billion (11.2%)
  4. Mineral fuels including oil: $4.5 billion (3.6%)
  5. Iron, steel: $4.1 billion (3.3%)
  6. Rubber, rubber articles: $3.31 billion (2.6%)
  7. Plastics, plastic articles: $3.28 billion (2.6%)

Slovakia’s top 10 exports generated 79.6% of the overall value of its global shipments.

Arms and ammunition represent the fastest grower among the top 10 export categories, up by 126.9% from 2024 to 2025.

In second place for improving export sales was plastics, both as material and including articles made from plastic, via a 13.4% advance.

Slovakia’s shipments of vehicles posted the third-fastest gain in value, up by 9.7%.

The leading decliner among Slovakia’s top 10 export categories was rubber, both as material and including articles made from rubber, thanks to a -6.5% year-over-year drop.

The above listed product categories are at the two-digit Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) code level.

Drilling down to the more granular four-digit Harmonized Tariff System codes, Slovakia’s most valuable exported products are cars (27.8% of the Slovakian total), then automobile parts or accessories (6.3%) trailed by phone devices including smartphones (4.1%), television reception apparatus, monitors and projectors (3%), new rubber tires (2.1%), bombs, grenades and other ammunition (also 2.1%), electrical energy (1.8%), insulated wire or cable (1.6%), refined petroleum oils (1.4%) then electrical lighting or signaling equipment and defrosters (1.1%).

Products Behind Slovakia’s Best Trade Surpluses

The following types of Slovakian product shipments represent positive net exports or a trade balance surplus. Investopedia defines net exports as the value of a country’s total exports minus the value of its total imports. In a nutshell, net exports represent the amount by which foreign spending on a home country’s goods or services exceeds or lags the home country’s spending on foreign goods or services.

  1. Vehicles: US$20.9 billion (Up by 7.8% since 2024.)
  2. Iron, steel: $1.1 billion (Down by -2.3%)
  3. Arms, ammunition: $1.1 billion (Up by 206.6%)
  4. Rubber, rubber articles: $831.9 million (Down by -33.1%)
  5. Wood: $554.5 million (Up by 11.3%)
  6. Cereals: $362.8 million (Down by -11.8%)
  7. Railways, streetcars: $359.2 million (Up by 45.6%)
  8. Paper, paper items: $355.1 million (Down by -17.3%)
  9. Salt, sulphur, stone, cement: $276.4 million (Down by -19.4%)
  10. Live animals: $192.7 million (Up by 11.6%)

Historically, Slovakia has highly positive net exports in the international trade of cars. In turn, these cashflows indicate Slovakia’s strong competitive advantages under the vehicles product category.

Products Causing Slovakia’s Worst Trade Deficits

The Slovak Republic incurred an overall -US$314.6 million trade deficit for 2025 up by 215.7% from -$99.7 million deficit one year earlier in 2024.

Below are exports from Slovakia that result in negative net exports or product trade balance deficits. These negative net exports reveal product categories where foreign spending on home country Slovakia’s goods trail Slovakian importer spending on foreign products.

  1. Electrical machinery, equipment: -US$4.9 billion (Up by 23.6% since 2024)
  2. Mineral fuels including oil: -$4.5 billion (Down by -4.9%)
  3. Pharmaceuticals: -$2.4 billion (Up by 10.4%)
  4. Plastics, plastic articles: -$1.5 billion (Down by -4.8%)
  5. Optical, technical, medical apparatus: -$991.2 million (Up by 4.4%)
  6. Meat: -$866.4 million (Down by -1.2%)
  7. Furniture, bedding, lighting, signs, prefab buildings: -$784.7 million (Up by 8.8%)
  8. Machinery including computers: -$764.2 million (Down by -7%)
  9. Other chemical goods: -$675 million (Up by 6.5%)
  10. Knit or crochet clothing, accessories: -$607.6 million (Up by 46.6%)

Slovakia has highly negative net exports and therefore deep international trade deficits the electrical machinery and equipment and, historically, the mineral fuels including oil product category.

In macroeconomic terms, Slovakia’s total exported goods represent 48.7% of its overall Gross Domestic Product for 2025 ($257 billion valued in Purchasing Power Parity US dollars). That 48.7% for exports to overall GDP in PPP for 2025 compares to 46.7% for 2024. Those percentages suggest a relatively increasing reliance on products sold on international markets for Slovakia’s total economic performance, albeit based on a short timeframe.

Also, note that these metrics include a significant amount of re-exporting activity partly driven by Slovakia’s strategic geographic location.

Another key indicator of a country’s economic performance is its unemployment rate. Slovakia’s unemployment rate averaged 5.751% for 2025, up from an average 5.358% in 2024 according to International Monetary Fund statistics.
