Visakhapatnam District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore on Thursday (August 6, 2026) asked officials to make full arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations and said the programmes should reflect the district's development, cultural heritage, and key government initiatives.

Reviewing the preparations with Joint Collector G. Vidyadhari and officials of various departments at the Collectorate, Mr. Kishore called for innovative tableaux showcasing the Visakha Economic Region concept and the city’s future growth prospects. He asked the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) to prepare a special tableau on the region’s development vision.

The Collector said the tableaux should also highlight government programmes in healthcare, including Sanjeevini, implementation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, expansion of health services, progress in education, industrial development, tourism projects and civic works undertaken by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).

He asked the Education Department to organise at least 30 minutes of cultural programmes depicting Visakhapatnam’s culture, traditions and key government programmes. Personnel from the police, the National Cadet Corps (NCC), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Indian Navy should take part in the Guard of Honour, he said.

Mr. Kishore asked officials to complete ground-levelling works, ensure proper stage decoration, seating arrangements and public address systems, and set up 20 stalls showcasing the welfare and development measures of various government departments. He also asked departments to finalise invitations, complete protocol arrangements and recommend deserving officials, employees and institutions for State and district-level awards.
