PROTECT YOURSELF with Orgo-Life® QUANTUM TECHNOLOGY
Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe new Fizik Ergolace 2 shoe improves upon the comfort-first approach of prior iterations. With four new versions in flat and clipless styles, the revamped Ergolace aims to provide comfort and versatility for riders heading into the unknown. Read on below for more…
The Fizik Ergolace 2 is a redesigned version of the brand’s comfort-focused silhouette. Even as a clipless offering, the Ergolace model has always focused on walkability and comfort over pedal response and stiffness, and that continues with the Ergolace 2. There are four variations of the new model: two for flat pedals and two for clipless engagement systems. Each engagement style then has the choice of the standard or waterproof GORE-TEX version, dubbed the Ergolace 2 GTX.
Much like the original Ergolace, both versions of the new shoe emphasize time off the pedals through their sole design. The Ergolace 2 has specific outsoles for the clipped and flat versions, with the flat version using the Vibram XS Ride and the clipped Ergolace using the Vibram Megagrip. Fizik says these outsoles are optimized for walking and that the shoe also features lower-profile lugs for better pedal interface. At the heel and toe, deeper, more aggressive tread helps provide traction on loose ground. The clipless Ergolace 2 uses a revised nylon shank that, according to the brand, improves pedaling efficiency while maintaining the flexibility needed for walking.
For those coming from the prior model, the Ergolace 2 uses a new last with a wider forefoot. That added space is supposed to reduce pressure on longer rides. Both shoes also focus on striking a balance between stiffness and flexibility, as the brand says the clipped-in version of Ergolace 2 has a stiffness rating of 5/10, and the flat shoe a 2/10. The new shoe has also been reworked to reduce weight and improve durability. On the GTX version, a lightweight GORE-TEX Invisible Fit membrane forms the base, while wider PU-laminated areas provide additional protection. The foot-wrapping Airprene bootie construction at the entry point is designed to be breathable and pressure-free, and the asymmetrical lacing system uses a lightweight cord and locking mechanism for fast on-the-go adjustments.
The standard edition of the Ergolace 2 is available in three colors: off-white, dark blue-black, and forest green-caramel. The GTX versions come in just two colors: black or desert grey. The standard edition retails for $150, and the GTX versions are priced at $190.
