Worldwide sales of exported pesticides totaled US$45.6 billion in 2025.

The overall value of exported pesticides rose by an average 3.1% for all exporting countries from 5 years earlier in 2021 when pesticides shipments were valued at $44.2 billion.

Year over year, sales of globally exported pesticides rose 6.3% compared to $42.9 billion starting from 2024.

The 5 biggest exporters of pesticides onto global markets are mainland China, United States of America, India, France and Germany. Collectively, that cohort of major suppliers generated almost three-fifths (57.8%) of total international sales for exported pesticides during 2025.

Among continents, European countries posted the greatest sales from exported pesticides during 2025 with shipments valued at $19.3 billion or 42.5% of the global total. In second place were exporters located in Asia at 40.8% while another 11.2% of worldwide pesticides shipments originated from North America.

Smaller percentages came from sellers in Latin America (4.4%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, Africa (0.8%), then Oceania (0.3%) led by Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Types of Exported Pesticides

For research purposes, the 4-digit Harmonized Tariff System code prefix is 3808 under which subcategories are herbicides (including anti-sprouting products and plant-growth regulators), insecticides, fungicides, disinfectants and rodenticides (plus other plant protection products).

Below is a breakdown of the most valuable types of pesticides exported in 2025. Not shown are miscellaneous subcategories with technical chemical components, which accounted for the remaining 3.5% of the global total.

  2. Fungicides : 24.7%
  3. Insecticides : 24.6%
  4. Disinfectants : 8.2%
  5. Rodenticides, other plant protection items: 4.5%

Boasting the greatest percentage increase from 2024 were fungicides via a 13.1% acceleration.

The category of pesticides recording the most modest increase were rodenticides or other plant protection products, recording a 1.6% upturn in export sales from 2024 to 2025.

Countries Benefiting from Best Trade Surpluses for Pesticides

The following countries posted the highest positive net exports for pesticides during 2025. Investopedia defines net exports as the value of a country’s total exports minus the value of its total imports. Thus, the statistics below present the surplus between the value of each country’s exported pesticides and its import purchases for that same commodity.

  1. mainland China: US$9.3 billion (net export surplus up 13.7% since 2024)
  2. United States: $2.8 billion (down -12.3%)
  3. India: $2.5 billion (down -5%)
  4. Germany: $1.9 billion (down -10%)
  5. France: $1.8 billion (up 19.1%)
  6. Belgium: $1.2 billion (up 12.5%)
  7. Israel: $781.4 million (up 14.8%)
  8. South Korea: $696.5 million (up 20.3%)
  9. Spain: $662.2 million (up 4.9%)
  10. United Kingdom: $391.3 million (up 50.2%)
  11. Hungary: $341 million (up 10.1%)
  12. Austria: $207.5 million (up 7.4%)
  13. Singapore: $164.5 million (down -58.7%)
  14. Japan: $120 million (down -29.1%)
  15. Slovenia: $99.5 million (up 11.4%)

World-leading pesticides supplier, mainland China, earned the highest surplus in the international trade of pesticides. In turn, this positive cashflow confirms strong Chinese competitive advantage for this specific product category.

Countries Experiencing Worst Trade Deficits for Pesticides

The following countries posted the highest negative net exports for pesticides during 2025. Investopedia defines net exports as the value of a country’s total exports minus the value of its total imports. Thus, the statistics below present the deficit between the value of each country’s imported pesticides purchases and its exports for that same commodity.

  1. Brazil: -US$5.1 billion (net export deficit up 17.9% since 2024)
  2. Canada: -$1.9 billion (up 14.5%)
  3. Australia: -$1.1 billion (down -3.5%)
  4. Ukraine: -$670.3 million (down -20.4%)
  5. Vietnam: -$601.9 million (down -27.3%)
  6. Thailand: -$601.8 million (up 3.3%)
  7. Mexico: -$601.1 million (down -6%)
  8. Argentina: -$562.3 million (down -6.6%)
  9. Russia: -$443.2 million (up 10.2%)

  14. Peru: -$357.4 million (up 12.4%)
  15. Chile: -$347.6 million (up 23.9%)

South America’s biggest country both in terms of population and land area, Brazil incurred the highest deficit in the international trade of pesticides. In turn, this negative cashflow highlights Brazil’s competitive disadvantage for this specific product category but also signals opportunities for pesticides-supplying countries that help satisfy the powerful demand.
