If you missed it, coinciding with our 2026 Sea Otter Classic coverage last month, we partnered with Wheels Manufacturing and Surly Bikes on a giveaway of a custom-built Karate Monkey. The bike is set up singlespeed and kitted out with an assortment of US-made Wheels MFG parts, including the SOLO-HG Single Speed Conversion Kit, a direct-mount chainring, a BSA bottom bracket, and more. The total value of the bike is over $2,000 USD.

The Surly Karate Monkey is a highly versatile trail bike that plays nicely with rigid forks, like this build, or 140mm travel suspension forks. It features a 100% Surly Chromoly Steel frame and fork, external cable routing, dropper post routing, Surly’s Gnot-Boost 145mm hub spacing, and a threaded bottom bracket. The Karate Monkey has big tire clearance, with room for 29 x 2.5″ or 27.5 x 3.0″ tires, and loads of mounting points for cages, racks, and bags.

The build Wheels MFG put together is an upgraded version of the stock, rigid build. It has Tektro HD-M275 disc brakes, 27.5 x 3.0″ Surly Dirt Wizard tires, a Shimano Deore crankset, and nearly everything else has been upgraded with Wheels MFG’s machined Satin Orange components. It’s a size large, which is suited to ~5’9″ to 6’2″ tall riders.

The giveaway is open through May 31st, 2026. No purchase is necessary, but you must submit your email to be added to Surly’s and Wheels MFG’s email lists. The giveaway is open only to those who sign up at the sweepstakes page and who are 13+ as of the date of entry. The sweepstakes is only open to legal residents of the United States, excluding New York, Florida, and Rhode Island. All entries must be received by May 31st, 2026, 11:59 PM. If you’re at the Sea Otter Classic, stop by the Surly Bikes booth A75 to check out the bike in person and scan the QR code to enter.
