Australia overcame an early batting collapse to post an imposing 196/5 in the second T20I against Bangladesh at Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram after winning the toss and choosing to bat. While Matt Renshaw’s unbeaten 89 anchored the recovery, it was Bangladesh fielder Saif Hassan who produced one of the standout moments of the evening with a spectacular diving catch to dismiss Cooper Connolly and briefly put the visitors under pressure.

Saif Hassan bags a stunner to dismiss Cooper Connolly

The highlight of the opening phase came on the second ball of the fourth over when Nahid Rana induced an outside edge from Cooper Connolly with a fast, full delivery moving away from the left-hander. Connolly committed to an ambitious drive but only managed to nick the ball toward the slip cordon.

Positioned to the left of the trajectory, Hassan reacted instantly, launching himself into a full-length dive to complete a stunning catch with remarkable control. The sharp reflexes and clean take drew applause from teammates and spectators alike, giving Bangladesh a crucial breakthrough and reducing Australia’s momentum during the powerplay.

The dismissal left Australia reeling as Bangladesh’s bowlers exploited the conditions effectively in the early overs. With three wickets down for just 44 runs, the hosts appeared to have seized control and looked poised to restrict the visitors to a below-par total.

Matt Renshaw leads Australia’s fightback

Australia’s innings, however, took a dramatic turn thanks to Renshaw, who played a composed yet aggressive knock under pressure. Walking in with his side in trouble, the left-hander rebuilt the innings before accelerating in the latter stages to remain unbeaten on 89 from just 52 deliveries.

Renshaw mixed patience with power, finding the boundary four times and clearing it on five occasions as he paced his innings expertly. He absorbed the early pressure before capitalising on scoring opportunities, ensuring Australia never lost sight of a competitive total.

His partnership with Tim David proved particularly significant. David injected momentum into the innings with a brisk 45 off only 26 balls, attacking the Bangladesh bowlers during the middle and death overs. The duo shifted the balance decisively, turning what looked like a shaky start into a commanding finish.
