Cab driver found stabbed to death inside car; cops suspect passengers

40-year-old cab driver was discovered stabbed inside his vehicle in Krishna Nagar.

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old cab driver was found stabbed to death inside his car in east Delhi's Krishna Nagar Thursday night, with police suspecting that the attackers were passengers who had hired the vehicle shortly before the incident.Vijay Kumar, a resident of West Vinod Nagar, was found with multiple stab wounds in the driver's seat. His wallet, phone and other belongings were found in inside the vehicle, leading police to suspect that robbery was not the motive.Police said a PCR call was received around 9pm about a man found stabbed in a car near metro pillar no. 90 in Krishna Nagar. When police reached the spot, they found the Wagon R abandoned by the roadside. The injured driver had already been taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.During preliminary investigation, police officers found no signs of theft. Cops suspect that three to four passengers had hired the cab and that an argument broke out during the journey. Cops believe the passengers stabbed Kumar, before fleeing.Investigators are now trying to establish in which area the passengers boarded the cab and reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the attack.Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby roads and establishments, analysing the victim’s call records and scrutinising the cab’s booking details. “We found that the passengers had also made a payment to him,” a senior police officer said.A case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered.

Do you think more surveillance (like CCTV) would help in solving cab-related crimes?

Yes, it would help. No, it wouldn’t make a difference.
