Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAfter a two-week break, Canada's Parliament resumed this week. And on Tuesday, Prime Minister Mark Carney faced pressing questions from Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre and his Conservative shadow cabinet. The focus from Poilievre? Escalated calls for the Liberals to scrap all additional federal taxes on gas and diesel for the remainder of the year, including the GST. This comes after the Tories presented a motion in the House of Commons that would permanently end the clean fuel standard. Poilievre’s affordability push comes after the Carney government instituted a temporary suspension of the federal fuel excise tax last month, amid sky-high gas prices brought by the conflict in the Middle East and resulting energy supply shortages. During question period, Poilievre argued that gas prices are more than 40 cents higher than they were in 2014, when former Conservative prime minister Stephen Harper was in power, and a global energy crisis also pushed the price of oil to US$100 per barrel. Carney countered that refinery margins — the difference between the cost of refined fuel and the cost of production — are also about 40 cents higher in Canada, a result of the loss of raw petrol supplies. “Those are not world impacts, those are Liberal impacts,” Poilievre said, adding: “This is a prime minister who likes to blame the rest of the world… Will he stop making excuses and reverse the inflationary policies before Canadians lose their homes?” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/11863522/canada-defence-spending-promises-experts-us/ Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Follow Global News on X HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on TikTok HERE: https://www.tiktok.com/@globalnews.ca?lang=en #GlobalNews #Cdnpoli #QuestionPeriod #canada #carney #poilievre
